Files backup is different from storage. Backup means safekeeping your files to avoid data loss. The traditional backup means taking a snapshot of your data and filing it elsewhere safe. So, this article discusses two main ways to back up your important files on your PC. 1. Using Physical Media Physical media include, but not limited to, Compact Disc (CD), Universal Serial Bus Flash Drive (USB), and External Hard Disk Drive (External HDD). This is a great help when you want to back up and safeguard your important files. Let's discuss each one. a. Compact Disc (CD) Computers come with a disc drive that can both read and write CDs. CD is a great advancement from the old floppy disk drives that could only hold a very small amount of data. It has been around for a while. It even became better when it went from being read-only to including write capabilities. With CD, you can share files quickly and easily or burn music to play in your room or photos to show on your smart TV. But you must be very careful and take every precaution in handling CDs. You avoid scratching the CDs. Otherwise, the data inside your CD cannot be retrieved or become unrecoverable. b. Universal Serial Bus Flash Drive (USB) USB flash drive is common when it comes to sharing or transferring files. Its storage capacity increases over the years while its relative cost decreases. This little, portable device give you a limited surface area to label the drive. We highly recommend you keep this device in a safe spot to avoid any data loss. c. External Hard Disk Drive (External HDD) External HDD stores a huge amount of data even if it is small enough to become portable and accessible at any time when you're near a computer. That makes it great! However, you must perform a complete backup from time to time. This is to avoid version control issues. 2. Using Online Backup and Sync Today's trend has been for people to move and store their data into the cloud which makes it more accessible anytime and anywhere so as long as you have Internet access. Online Backup is, indeed, a great option to guarantee your files' safety as there is no real danger of losing or damaging any of the servers.
